MainStreet Oceanside statement regarding the incident at the Dia de los Muertos festival:

The Oceanside Dia de los Muertos festival was celebrated on Sunday, October 22, 2023 in Downtown Oceanside. While the event was not organized by MainStreet Oceanside, our employee Cathy Nykiel engaged in inexcusable behavior.

 

This behavior has prompted MainStreet Oceanside to suspend Cathy without pay pending investigation. She has been removed from all MainStreet Oceanside events including the Sunset and Farmers Markets.

 

We hope that the community will respect our process. Our hard working and dedicated Staff, Board of Directors, Committee Members, Sunset and Farmers Market vendors, and especially our downtown businesses had no involvement in the incident. As always, we will strive to learn from this incident and continue to support our community and the well-being of our businesses.
